WIP Wednesday - Waiting for baby

For weeks now I've been saying that the baby could arrive "any day now". I'm getting tired of saying that and I'm ready to say "the baby is here!" Today is my grandmother's birthday, she's 97 years old, it would be amazing if the baby decided that today would be a good day to be born. The 13th is a special day in my family. My sister, my grandmother, my cousin and I all born on the 13th. Send me good delivery vibes!

While we (im)patiently wait for this baby to make his or her debut, I've been keeping busy by casting on for a bunch of new projects. Simple things to have on the needles and at the ready for easy knitting with a newborn. The first up is the Whippoorwill Shawl by Carina Spencer that I'm knitting in my own handspun paired with a OOAK skein of Red Label in a colourway called "Dusk". I am obsessed with both the handspun and the Dusk colourway... absolutely loving this project!

I ran into a bit of a snafu when I ran out of handspun with 6 long rows left to go in the main colour section... not a problem! It was the perfect opportunity to come up with a creative solution and add a feature stripe of some sparkly Moonmist (a past Club colourway that was also featured in a OOAK update). Knitting with handspun got me itching to get out the wheel and get spinning again. I dug out the wheel and put in some time with a lovely braid of roving. It feels so good to be behind the wheel again!

I've also got 2 pretty pairs of simple socks on the needles. The top one pictured is a pattern I'm just sorta winging in a skein of Blue Label in the OOAK colourway 'Cosmic'. This is the pair of socks that I intend to tinker away on forever. Something to keep my hands busy but that requires absolutely no brain power. The striped socks are another simple project using Scrumptious Purl self striping sock yarn with an accent of Royal Flush for the cuff toe and heel. Other than the heel these socks could be knit in my sleep. Perfect. I've also got my Wolf River nearby in case I feel up to tackling a few repeats of lace.

So, that's what I've got going on, what about you? Watcha workin' on?
