about us

The Tanis Fiber Arts story has very humble beginnings - at first it was just me, conducting yarn experiments in the kitchen of my old apartment. Its hard to believe that was only two years ago and how fast TFA has grown. Still, when I say hand dyed yarn, I mean it in the truest sense; every skein TFA has produces I dye myself. The day to day operations are handled by just a few people, but it would never have been possible to get here without all the love!

Tanis

Tanis

Nobody loves yarn like Tanis. She is from a long line of knitters, and you would be hard pressed to find her not working away at a sock or a sweater for Stella - its in her blood. Add that to her art school background and natural eye for colour and Tanis Fiber Arts was practically inevitable. Whether she is packing an order for delivery, working out a new colourway or knitting the thumb for a mitten, its all about the yarn!

Chris

Chris

Chris and Tanis are a team in every sense of the word. Though he has only been devoting himself to TFA full time for a few months, he has pitched in as much as possible since the beginning. Chris does all the heavy lifting and has recently become a master skein winder. Though he hasn't yet taken the plunge and learnt how to knit, Tanis hopes that it's only a matter of time!

Noreen

Noreen

Noreen is Tanis' mom. She is the mathematical mastermind behind the book-keeping at TFA. In addition to that, she is our elite test-knitter, and Tanis' partner in crime at all the trade shows. Most importantly, she is there for moral support. Tanis calls her five times a day to answer yarn related questions when Chris can't take it any more. Noreen is at the root of it all... she taught Tanis how to knit, the same way her mom taught her.

Stella

Stella

Honestly, not much help when it comes to dyeing or book keeping and a little too small for moving boxes. Stella is, however, a stunning knitwear model with a keen eye for colour and she keeps the mood light just by being herself. Stella has grown up literally surrounded by yarn. As a puppy she had an appetite for leather belts and zippers, but she has never once harmed a single skein of yarn... good girl!
